Twenty-four artists from across the state will show their work in the 2015 installment of the Governor’s Derby Exhibit coordinated by the Kentucky Arts Council, part of the annual Governor’s Derby Celebration in Frankfort.
The Governor’s Derby Exhibit runs from March 30-May 4 in the Capitol Rotunda, 700 Capitol Ave. The building is open 8 a.m-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; and Saturday, May 2, during the Derby Celebration. The exhibit is open to the public.
"The Governor’s Derby Exhibit is becoming a much-loved Kentucky tradition," said First Lady Jane Beshear. "Although the art is inspired by a single theme, I’m always impressed by the varied styles and breadth of creativity offered by our artists, and I encourage visitors to our Capital City this April to stop by and take in this display of true Kentucky talent."
Unlike most arts council exhibits, which are open only to adjudicated arts council program participants, any Kentucky visual artist 18 years old or older may submit work for the Governor’s Derby Exhibit. This year 61 artists submitted 104 pieces for consideration.
Artists whose work will be on display in the Derby Exhibit, and their county of residence, are:

Artist Eva King of Murray will show her work for the second time in a Governor’s Derby Exhibit. She had a piece in the 2013 exhibit, and this year her piece, titled "Melon," will join the 23 other artworks.
"I’m pleased and honored to be selected for this exhibit," King said. "I enjoy showing at the Capitol. Being on this end of the state, it gives me the opportunity to show my work in a different part of Kentucky than I usually do."
King is originally from Brandenburg, not far from the Derby’s home city of Louisville. Growing up, she attended the Kentucky Derby many times with her family.
"It really is a fun thing to do there in Louisville," she said. "And by having a piece in this show, it’s like I’m still a part of that Derby celebration."
