Morehead State Athletics

At the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Tournament awards banquet on Monday night, Morehead State senior Anna Magnusson and sophomore Ana Dieguez were named to the 2016-17 All-OVC Team.

"I'm excited Anna and Ana have earned All-OVC honors," said head coach Stephanie Barker. "To be recognized as one of the top players in the OVC is quite an honor and I am very proud and happy for them."

Magnusson has been named All-OVC at the conclusion of each of her four seasons at Morehead State. Following her sophomore season, she was named OVC Golfer of the Year.

This year's OVC Player of the Year will not be announced until after the OVC Championship, which takes place this week.

Magnusson had wins this season at the Bluegrass Fall Kickoff and Lady Pirate Intercollegiate and was named OVC Golfer of the Week after both wins. She ranks seventh in the OVC in scoring average at 74.7. With a 67 at the Golfweek Program Challenge, she is tied for the lowest round this season in the OVC.

She has four career wins.

"Anna has proven herself to be one of the all-time greats for our program, as well as the OVC," added Barker. "She works tremendously hard and her numerous awards and accolades are well deserved. It is an honor to have served as her collegiate coach."

Dieguez was named All-OVC for the first time. She ranks 10th in the OVC in scoring average at 76.8 and has three top-20 finishes.

Morehead State played in the OVC Women's Golf Championship this week in Alabama. After the first round, they are in fourth place at 14-over. Magnusson is tied for sixth after shooting 73 (+1) in the opening round.

The 54-hole tournament is at Hampton Cove, the northern gateway to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The second round took place on Tuesday and the tournament will wrap up on Wednesday.
