Ashland Police Issues Warning On Synthetic Drug

WCHS

Authorities in eastern Kentucky are warning of an unidentified substance that is causing dangerous behavior in its users.

The Ashland police department is reporting recent encounters with individuals under the influence of materials being packaged and sold as aromatherapy products.

Major Todd Kelley says the substance looks like marijuana, but its physical effects mirror those of cocaine, methamphetamine, and Xanax.

“Its chemical makeup is unknown and it has adverse reactions on everybody. You’re talkin’ about violent tendencies from someone that’s normally not violent. You may have someone that may be displaying strange behavior that’s not had it in the past.” –Todd Kelley

Kelley says packaging of the materials clearly indicates they’re not for human consumption but people are ignoring the warning.  He says the substance is now being tested in a police lab to determine its chemical makeup.

Kelley says police believe the product is being purchased in southern Ohio.
