Ashland Recognizes Child Abuse Prevention

Word Press

Ashland City Commissioner Amanda Clark says she’s a little surprised by the extent of alleged child abuse in Boyd County, which has a population of nearly 49,000.

Clark participated in a recent child abuse awareness event at the Ashland Post of the Kentucky State Police.

She says 497 pinwheels were placed in the ground to symbolize each report of child abuse in Boyd County in 2014.

“We are getting better at recognizing possible child abuse and we’re getting better at reporting it instead of sort of turning a blind eye to it and maybe that’s the increase in the number, but one is too many.”

Clark is a former elementary school teacher who says every case of suspected abuse should be reported. She says that’s the best way to protect children.
