Barr Urges Repeal of Affordable Care Act Mandates

TPNN

Kentucky Congressman Andy Barr is pointing to the collapse of the Kentucky Health Cooperative and the failure of co-ops in other states as evidence that a new approach is needed to expand access and lower health care costs.

The Lexington Republican was among those who voted Friday (October 23) for a bill that would repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate, the employer mandate and the medical device tax.

Barr says the ACA promised things it has not delivered.

“In the past two weeks, Obamacare co-ops have failed in my home state of Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, Oregon and South Carolina. Co-ops have failed in Nevada, Iowa, Nebraska, New York and Louisiana, and these failures were entirely predictable, because the model was not sustainable. The Kentucky co-op lost nearly sixty cents for every premium dollar it collected.” –Congressman Andy Barr

The House passed the so-called Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act by a vote of 240 to 189. Barr says it would reduce the federal deficit by 130-billion dollars over the next ten years.
