Beshear Hopes Next Governor Will Embrace SOAR

Kentucky.com

Governor Beshear is optimistic that SOAR will continue after he leaves office.

“Shaping Our Appalachian Region” is the non-profit organization he established with Congressman Hal Rogers more than a year ago to help diversify and improve the economy of eastern Kentucky.

The governor leaves office at the end of this year but he’s hoping Kentucky’s next chief executive will be committed to the SOAR initiative.

“I’ve already talked to the Democratic nominee Attorney General Jack Conway and if he wins, he has signed-up already, he’ll be standing right there next to Congressman Rogers next year as governor of the commonwealth to continue the SOAR initiative and the congressman has assured me he’s going to be talking to the Republican nominee and get the same commitment.”

Beshear says its essential Kentucky’s next governor be involved with SOAR. He doesn’t think it can succeed otherwise.
