The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has started a $700,000 project to improve four state highway bridges in Carter, Nicholas and Lewis counties.
The work involves bridge surface restoration and waterproofing of the KY 1 bridge over Everman Creek in Carter County, the KY 57 bridge over Somerset Creek in Nicholas County, the KY 8 bridge over Salt Lick Creek in Lewis County and the KY 10 bridge over Cabin Creek in Lewis County.
Construction is now under way on the Carter and Nicholas county bridges, which should take about a month to complete. Improvements to the Lewis County bridges will follow in June.
During construction, each bridge will be restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. The work is being done under a Transportation Cabinet low-bid contract awarded to Intech Contracting LLC for $696,209.67.
Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, drive slow in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
