Bridge Painting Starts Mar. 15 on KY 1274 Bridge at Rowan-Menifee line; KY 7 Bridges, Carter County

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

A $1.2 million bridge-painting project starts this month on the KY 1274 bridge at the Rowan-Menifee county line and will continue in April on two Carter County bridges.

Beginning March 15, will remove old paint from steel beams on the KY 1274 bridge over the Licking River at the Rowan-Menifee county line (milepoint 0) and repaint them. The work will reduce the bridge to one-lane for approximately the next month. Temporary signals will control traffic across the bridge in both directions. Motorists should expect delays. Message boards will be used to warn travelers.

In April, painting will start on the steel substructure of two Carter County bridges: the KY 7 Bridge over the Grayson Lake dam spillway (milepoint 3.9) and the KY 7 Bridge over Clifty Creek (milepoint 1.7). The bridges will be one lane for about a month each, with traffic controlled by temporary signals.

The Transportation Cabinet awarded a $1,212,840 low-bid contract to North Star Painting Company Inc. of Youngstown, Ohio, to complete the project.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slowdown in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
