Big Sandy Community and Technical College held its fourth-annual Super Sunday College Fair on Sunday, February 23, at the Church of God MPG of T in Pikeville, Ky.
Super Sunday is an annual Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) statewide initiative intended to increase the college-going rate of students of color.
"It’s great to get out in the community and answer questions,” said Billie Jean Cole, associate dean of student affairs at BSCTC.
As part of the initiative, a Super Sunday Hall of Fame was created. This year’s recipient, Stephanie Savanna Kent, was on hand Sunday.
“This is a great way to spread the word about college and success,” Kent said.
Dr. George D. Edwards, president and CEO of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, told those in attendance about the need to have a strong support system.
“We all need help along the way,” said Dr. Edwards to the congregation. “If you want to go to college, earn a degree and have a high paying job, we are here to help you make that happen,” commented Edwards.
Elder Gene Layne, who serves as pastor of Church of God MPG of T, said BSCTC offers an affordable and quality college education.
"Education is needed, and I am glad that Big Sandy Community and Technical College is in our communities making the dream of a college education a reality,” Layne said.
BSCTC had representatives from admissions and financial aid on hand to answer questions from prospective students.
