Buddhist Monk To Present Lecture

Big Sandy Community and Technical College

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) and the Global Studies and International Partnerships (GSIP) at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, will sponsor a presentation on Love and Compassion by TseringPhuntsok.

The presentation by Phuntsok, who has been a practicing Buddhist monk for the past 22 years, will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, in the Gearheart Auditorium on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC.

Phuntsok is an educator of Buddhist compassion, spiritual dancing, rituals, prayers and practices.

Residing in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Dharamsala, India, Phuntsok’s home is less than a minute walk from the temple and residence of the H.H. Dalai Lama.

“We hope this presentation will begin a dialogue on human compassion and what it means in our lives here in our mountains,” said Greta Heintzelman Slone, an assistant professor of English at BSCTC. “The Buddhist faith is intriguing and their notions of compassion and meditative practices will be discussed in great detail.”

Phuntsok’s work is very well-known in India, especially in causes related to health.  His projects include the solar hot water for young students and mold remediation to help with respiratory condition.

For more information on Phuntsok’s visit and presentation, contact Slone at (606) 886-4763 or email gslone0020@kctcs.edu.
