The Kentucky Arts Council is shining the spotlight on local artists and retailers as the winter holiday season approaches.
The council's "Give A Gift From Kentucky" campaign is an effort to connect with shoppers who are interested in purchasing local, handmade gifts.
Kentucky Arts Council communications director Emily Moses says the campaign also promotes open-gallery and open-studio events throughout the state.
"You can go to the place where an artist creates their work, and they have items for you to buy. So you get to meet the artist, and you also get to see the environment they work in, and you get to purchase some of their artwork.” –Emily Moses
Moses says the "Give A Gift From Kentucky" program also encourages shoppers to remember local artists and retailers during the days immediately following Thanksgiving--some of the busiest shopping days of the year.
