Caitlynn Mason Records First Shutout in Tie with Chattanooga

MSU Athletics

In its second double-overtime contest of the weekend, Morehead State (2-2-1) played Chattanooga (1-3-1) to a 0-0 tie.

"We just fought and played for another 110 minutes," head coach Warren Lipka said. "That's our first shutout of the year, I'm proud of that."

Eagles goalkeeper Caitlynn Mason recorded her third start of the season, where she garnered five saves off 17 Chattanooga shot attempts. She now leads Morehead State with 14 saves on the season, in addition to this afternoon's shutout.

The Eagles managed 14 shot attempts as a team, led by sophomore forward Dani Wilson. The Elizabethtown, Ky. product notched five shots, with two attempts on goal. Sophomore Abby Timm had three shots, while freshman Ashley Ritchie tried three of her own.

"They competed," said Lipka. "They went until they couldn't go anymore. That's the sign of a team that's got a lot of heart."

Morehead State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 when Western Carolina (2-3) visits Jayne Stadium at 6 p.m.
