Churchill Downs Expands Seating

Examiner

The latest expansion project at Churchill Downs is underway. Work has begun on the track’s Grandstand Terrace, which will add 24-hundred seats at the head of the track’s homestretch, along with a rooftop garden and other amenities.

Churchill Downs General Manager Ryan Jordan says the $14.5 million project will be finished in time for next year’s Kentucky Derby.

“This area here is an area that has grown over time, seats have been added throughout the years.   But we have realized as the Derby has grown and as additional fans have come out to the Derby, we felt that we can improve the experience for all those fans by adding the amenities that they seek and need on those days.” –Ryan Jordan

Part of the Grandstand Terrace will be built over the track’s old paddock, which Jordan says will be incorporated into the new structure. Jordan also adds that the price of seats in the new area has not been finalized.
