City of Morehead Receives $200,000 Community Development Block Grant

Twitter

The Department for Local Government (DLG) approved funding for a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the City of Morehead for the Morehead Inspiration Center.

“Recovery centers serve as an integral part of communities coping with addiction all across the Commonwealth,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “The Morehead Inspiration Center, which opened in 2007, was the first recovery center in Kentucky for men suffering from substance abuse.  These funds help to ensure continual staff support and ongoing recovery programs for men seeking assistance and treatment.”

The center serves men who are suffering from substance abuse and other drug or alcohol induced problems.  The recovery program at Morehead Inspiration Center includes peer support, daily living skills training, job responsibilities, and opportunities to practice sober living.  The program is designed to assist a minimum of 100 men at any given time.

“I am grateful to DLG for their assistance in securing these block grant funds for the Morehead Inspiration Center,” said Sen. Stephen West. “These programs and resources can help to provide long-term care and prevention for the most vulnerable in our community.  Even the smallest investment can go a long way to changing someone’s life.”

The CDBG program provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
