Congressman Hal Rogers Wary of New Drug

Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers worries that a narcotic painkiller that came on the market in March could touch off a new drug abuse scourge in the US. The Somerset Republican made the comment Sunday on C-Span’s Newsmakers program.

Rogers is talking about Zohydro,   prescription medication in the form of a pill that is intended for the treatment of long-term, chronic pain. He says it’s five times more powerful than Vicodin…

Rogers says he doesn’t understand why the Food and Drug Administration approved Zohydro. He says the FDA’s advisory committee voted overwhelmingly against it.
