Congressman Rogers Applauds Foreign Operations Cuts

house.gov

Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers is applauding the House Appropriations Subcommittee for its approval of a State Department foreign operations budget for next year that is 19 percent below 2013 funding levels. The Somerset Republican chairs the full Appropriations Committee.

He insists the 34.1 billion dollar measure makes necessary cuts but does not shortchange security at America’s embassies overseas…
"The states foreign operations bill reduces funding by billions of dollars from current levels while meeting the most critical security priorities. The bill recognizes the risks our diplomats face…fully funds the embassy security requested at 4.8 billion…every penny the President asked for is in this bill." - Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers

Rogers also says the bill also provides 6.5 billion dollars for counter-terrorism efforts and aid to Colombia and Mexico to fight drug trafficking.
