The Council on Postsecondary Education awarded $620,000 in federal grant funding to five education partnerships to deliver professional development for P-12 teachers.
Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Northern Kentucky University, and the University of Kentucky will receive $130,000 each. Kentucky State University will receive $100,000.
The Council’s focus this year for the Improving Educator Quality (IEQ) program is to support professional development projects that close achievement gaps of underrepresented and low-income students. The projects focus on critical thinking skills across content areas in conjunction with career and technical education through dual credit.
“We are very pleased to provide these grants to help meet the needs of teacher education in Kentucky,” said Council President Bob King.
IEQ provides grants to partnerships that deliver research-based professional development programs. To be eligible, a partnership must include a postsecondary institution’s school of arts and sciences, its teacher preparation program, as well as at least one high-need local school district.
The projects include:
Eastern Kentucky University, “Promoting Project-Based Assignments and Effective Formative Assessment Practices through Teacher Partnerships.”
Kentucky State University, “P-16 Student to Teacher Transformation Pathways (STTP).”
Morehead State University, “Teacher Leader Masters/National Board Certification/STEM.”
Northern Kentucky University, “NKY-FAME: Experiences in Career and Technical Preparation for Teachers and Students NKY-Fame.”
University of Kentucky, “Preparing Educators to Serve in Career Themed Academies.”
