MSU Athletics

Morehead State sophomore Hunter Fain has been named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, honoring the nation's best catcher. The award, administered by the Greater Wichita (Kan.) Area Sports Commission, is sponsored by BaseballSavings.com.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 17, 2017. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 5, 2017.

A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 20th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 29, 2017.

Fain, a native of Mount Clare, W.Va., is batting .328 with four doubles and a home run in 2017. He had a 23-game reached streak dating back to the end of the 2016 season. He also sports a .448 slugging percentage and a .451 on-base percentage.

Defensively, Fain ranks among the nation's best in throwing out opponent base stealers as he has gunned down 40 percent.
