Eagle Volleyball Defeats Appalachian State in Five Sets

The Morehead State volleyball team (3-5) defeated Appalachian State (2-5) in five sets on Friday at Wetherby Gym in the first match of the Eagle Challenge.

The Eagles dropped the first set to the Mountaineers, but took the second and third sets. The match was forced into a fifth set after Appalachian State won the fourth, where Morehead State closed out the contest on a 9-2 scoring run. The Eagles won 21-25, 26-24, 27-25, 19-25, 15-11.

Four Eagle players recorded at least 11 kills, led by senior Sydney Schuler's 15. Sophomore Maddie Fella managed a career-best 14 kills, while hitting .448. Sophomore Merideth Jewell tallied 14 kills and 14 digs, and sophomore Jordan Jones posted 11 kills and 40 assists. Senior Hope Rillema came up with a team-high 23 digs, one short of her career high.

Morehead State will take the court once again tonight, when the Ball State Cardinals visit Wetherby Gym at approximately 7 p.m. ET.
