Eagle Volleyball releases 2017 schedule, includes 15 home matches

Morehead State University

Morehead State has finalized its 2017 volleyball schedule, which includes 15 home matches.

The 29-match regular season slate begins on Friday, Aug. 25 when the Eagles host Delaware State in the Eagle Challenge. They will also face Youngstown State and Winthrop in the Eagle Challenge.

"We're really excited about our schedule this season. We will face a wide variety of programs in non-conference that will help prepare us for Ohio Valley Conference play," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "We always look forward to having great competition for our fans and the community, who have been incredibly supportive of us."

Following the Eagle Challenge, Morehead State will host rival Marshall on Aug. 29 before heading to Williamsburg, Va., to participate in the William & Mary Classic.

They will then host South Carolina State, Troy, and Middle Tennessee in the Comfort Inn-vitational, which takes place Sept. 8-9.

Conference play opens at Belmont on Friday, Sept. 22. Their first conference home match will be Friday, Sept. 29 vs. Jacksonville State.

The Eagles will alternate two away matches with two home matches throughout conference play.

They close the regular season with home matches against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 7 and Austin Peay on Nov. 11.

The Eagles return six upperclassmen, including their lone senior, Alli Evans.

Junior Jordan Jones returns after being named Second Team All-OVC a year ago. She ranked third on the team with 181 kills and second with 365 assists and 29 service aces. She set career highs in kills in back-to-back games when she recorded 14 against Belmont and 15 against Tennessee State.

"I am excited about this year's team. We have a lot of young talent with five freshmen that all have the ability to contribute early on. That, mixed with some seasoned veterans, should provide us with a lot of options as we navigate through a competitive schedule. We are healthy and finished the spring semester with growth and great team chemistry," said Gordon.

The OVC Tournament will be hosted by the regular-season champion during a three-day window Nov. 16-18.
