Fall Choral Showcase Concert slated for Oct. 14

Morehead State University’s Concert Choir will host the 2014 Taco Fiesta Dinner Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6:15-7:15 pm at the First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street, Morehead.

Proceeds from the dinner will support the choir’s national and international tours. The meal will consist of beef, chicken, and vegi tacos; rice, beans, tortilla chips with salsa, and ice cream. Entertainment throughout the dinner will be provided by various soloists and ensembles.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for students, $5 for children 12 and under, and children 2 and under are free. Tickets may be secured by calling 859-625-8670.  A limited amount of tickets also will be available at the door.

The annual Fall Choral Showcase Concert will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the First Baptist sanctuary.  Chamber Singers, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, University Chorus, Black Gospel Ensemble and Concert Choir will all be a part of the concert.

The groups are conducted by Drs. Greg Detweiler and Roosevelt Escalante. The concert is free of charge.

Chamber Singer will open the concert with Renaissance and contemporary selections. Pieces from the Renaissance include Ego sum panis vivus by Palestrina and Allon, gay bergeres by Costeley.  They will also perform O magnum mysterium by Francis Poulenc, Nunc Dimittis by Orbán György, Benedicamus Domino by Peter Warlock and There Is No Rose of Such Virtue by Kevin Memley.

University Chorus will perform Imagine a World by David Waggoner, Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes arranged by Lon Beery, and Ningun Bialik arr. by A. W. Binder.

Concert choir will continue with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Bogoroditse Devo and two movements from Carol Barnett’s A Bluegrass Mass.  Senior Joseph Rivers will conduct the motet, O beatum et sacrosanctum diem by Peter Phillips.

Jazz Vocal Ensemble and Black Gospel Ensemble will conclude the evening.  Jazz selections include Stolen Moments arranged by Darmon Meader, After the Love is Gone by Champlin, Foster, and Graydon, and Never Give Up by Ken Kraintz.  Black Gospel Ensemble will perform More Than Anything by Lamar Campbell, Big by Mike Gugliemucci, and The Lord is Able by John Kee.
