'Family Weekend' Slated for Sept. 20-22

For more than three decades, Morehead State University has welcomed students’ parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and neighbors to campus for a weekend of events and good times.

This year marks the 34th annual Family Weekend, scheduled for Sept. 20-22.

“We would like to invite everyone to take part in our Family Weekend,” said President Wayne D. Andrews. “For more than 30 years, this has been a tradition which allows everyone to see our beautiful campus, get a taste of what college life is all about and to spend time with their loved ones who are here in school.”

This year’s schedule includes:

Friday, Sept. 20 
•Family Fun Night (Sponsored by Campus Rec and Wellness), 4-7 p.m., Rec Center
•Salsa Under the Stars (Sponsored by SAIL), 6-8 p.m., Crager Room, Adorn Doran University Center. Kick off family weekend in style. Come over to ADUC and learn how to salsa dance with Ricardo Nazario-Colón. Bring a partner or come solo- all students and their families are invited. This event is free and refreshments will be served. 

Saturday, Sept. 21
•Morehead Arts and Eats Festival, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Downtown Morehead. For more events, visit www.moreheadartsandeats.com 
•Morehead- Rowan County, Clyde A. Thomas, Regional Airport Airshow, 3- 5 p.m. (Gates open at 12:30 p.m.) $5 car load. For more information, including directions visit www.mrcairport.org
•Morehead Idol, (sponsored by SGA) 1 p.m. Button Auditorium 
•Show Your MSU Spirit (Sponsored by the Office of Student Housing), 4-5 p.m., Alumni Tower Patio. Prepare for the game with face paint and temporary tattoos.
•Tailgate in the Eagle Rally Zone, 5-7 p.m. Be sure to stop by the Alumni and Constituents Tent.
•Eagle Football vs. Eastern Kentucky University, 7 p.m., Jayne Stadium.

Parents registered during Family Weekend have the opportunity for their son or daughter to win a scholarship of $250 for the spring semester. Winners will be announced during the football game and must be present to claim the award.

Sunday, Sept. 22
•Browning Orchard Festival, Noon - 4 p.m., Browning Orchard. Participants will enjoy an afternoon of hayrides, horse-back rides, food, family-friendly activities and musical entertainment by the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music. The orchard is located at (10955 Wallingford Road) Wallingford in Fleming County.
