Fleming County Home Destroyed By Fire

Terry Prather, The Ledger Independent

A Fleming County house was destroyed in a fire Thursday morning.

Fleming County Emergency Management Director Dwayne Price said dispatch received a call to respond to a house fire along Nepton Road in the Nepton area about 11:15 a.m., Thursday.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the house to be engulfed in flames. The resident of the home, Millard Claypool was not at the home when the fire broke out, Price said.

"He had left earlier in the day," Price said. "So, there was no one in the home at the time of the fire."

Price said firefighters were on scene for more than two hours until 1:43 p.m., in order to contain the fire that destroyed the home.

A cause of the blaze has not been determined.

"We are unsure of what could have caused the fire," Price said. "It could be anything, but right now, there is no way to tell. All we know right now that it was a total loss."

Price said firefighters from the Flemingsburg, Ewing and May's Lick volunteer fire departments responded to the scene. The Fleming County Ambulance Service remained on standby throughout the incident.
