Fleming County to Host Halloween at The Park

CLT

The first Halloween at the Park event will be held at the Fleming County Recreation Park on Saturday, November 1.

Park Director Donnie Story said the event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. and will consist of a trunk-or-treat, a haunted hay ride, a bonfire, a costume contest and a pumpkin carving contest.

There will also be chili and vegetable soup for sale. The chili or soup also comes with a sandwich and a drink. The price is $5 for adults and $3 for children for the food, but all other events are free.

Food will be served until sold out.

In order to enter the pumpkin carving contest, parents will need to bring their own pumpkin for their children. Pumpkins will not be judged during the event, so parents are also asked to provide a card with their name and phone number in case their pumpkin wins.

Prizes will include a gas card from Judge-Executive Larry Foxworthy, a gift card from Steve's hardware and gift cards from Walmart.

"This is something we thought of last week," Story said. "We wanted to give kids a chance to do something outside of town that is safe and fun."

Story said if the event has a decent turn-out, it will become a yearly event and will be bigger next year.

"We hope to see a lot of people come out for this," he said. "We'd like to see it be a lot bigger."
