Morehead State Athletics

In thrilling come-from-behind fashion late in the second half, Morehead State women's basketball (21-8, 11-5 Ohio Valley Conference) topped Jacksonville State (13-15, 6-10 OVC) 85-82 on senior day at Johnson Arena.

Trailing by as many as 12 in the third quarter, the Eagles entered the final period down 64-57. With 5:41 to go, KayK Tate's three-pointer gave Morehead State its first lead of the second half at 73-71. Following a brief tie that was broken mere seconds later, Morehead State would not relinquish its advantage for the rest of the ball game.

Redshirt-sophomore Darianne Seward led all scorers with 20 points on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting from three-point range. Sophomore Miranda Crockett connected on a perfect 7-of-7 attempts from the field, tallying 19 points and four assists off the bench. Junior Eriel McKee notched 17 points, matching Seward with a team-high 32 minutes of playing time.

Seniors Tate, Shay Steele, and Aaliyah Wells combined for 24 points, with Tate pouring in 13 in only 20 minutes. Steele blocked three shots and made two steals.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, while Morehead State knocked down 9-of-16 (.563) tries from beyond the perimeter. The Eagles bested the Gamecocks in points in the paint, points off turnovers, fast break scoring, and points off the bench.

After splitting the season series with Jacksonville State, MSU remains at second place in the OVC. The Eagles will assume the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament, awaiting whichever team clinches the No. 7 spot. Morehead State will take the court on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET in Nashville, Tenn.
