Gahafer Earns Football Honors

MSU Athletics

Morehead State freshman quarterback Austin Gahafer has earned two Pioneer Football League weekly honors.  He has been tabbed the PFL's Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office.

Gahafer completed 41-of-52 attempts for a career-high 458 yards in Saturday's 42-28 victory at Valparaiso.  The win marked MSU's third straight in conference action for the first time since 2007.  The Eagles trailed 28-19 at halftime, but outscored the Crusaders 23-0 after intermission.

Gahafer was just one passing yard from tying the 84-year-old school record and three completions shy of equaling the institution standard.  He recorded completions to 10 different Morehead State receivers and connected on three touchdown passes for the second consecutive game.

The Eagles ran a season-best 89 offensive plays at Valparaiso en route to season highs in passing yards (458) and total yards (627).  Morehead State has now scored 132 points over its past three contests (44.0 ppg) after scoring just 66 in its first four games (16.5 ppg) of 2013.

Gahafer ranks fourth in the PFL in passing yards (249) and total yards per contest (268).  The Louisville native has completed 146-of-225 attempts this year for 1,491 yards.  He has recorded 10 touchdowns, including six over the past two tilts, while throwing just five interceptions.

The Eagles return to Jayne Stadium on Saturday, October 26, for their annual Homecoming game against PFL opponent Dayton at 1 p.m.  MSU will play four of its final five contests at home.
