Gift of Giving Honors Parents' Memory of Son

Cody Evans, The Ledger Independent

Billie Lofton and her husband, Larry, have honored their late son's memory by giving back to area children at Christmas and this year will be no different.

Now in its sixteenth year, the Lofton's will host the annual B.J.'s Gift of Giving Christmas Party, which makes sure every child in attendance receives a gift and visit with Santa Claus.

The Loftons lost their son, William, who they called B.J., in 1999 at the age of 17.  The family is from Maysville and relocated to Atlanta in 1986.

Area families are invited to bring thier children to the Cox Building in downtown Maysville on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m., for a day filled gifts, drawings for bicycles and tablets, pictures with Santa and refreshments.  A special treat for this year is the chance to meet several Miss Kentucky beauty pageant queens, including Cynthia Thomas, of Maysville.

Each year the event draws between 150 to 250 children.  The main event takes place in the ballroom on the third floor of the Cox Building, located on East Third Street.
