Government Shutdown Affects Conservation District

Kentucky Department for Natural Resources

The partial shutdown of the federal government has inflicted some collateral damage for a local program in Mason County. Because the Mason County Conservation District is located in a United States Department of Agriculture Building in Maysville, which has been closed, the MCCD can’t operate unless it does so from another site.

Anthony Wenz chairs the conservation district board and says the conservation district has temporarily located in the Browning Medical Building on McDonald Parkway in Maysville.

“They were gonna lock it up and everything that the conservation district owned, being our computers, our files….all the things that being accessible to our district.”  --Anthony Wenz

Wenz says that office will be open Monday through Friday from 8am to noon. The conservation district will return to the USDA building, says Wenz, when the budget dispute in Washington is settled. The federal structure is on Main Street in Maysville.
