Greenhouse Gas Emissions Topic At Environmental Conference

Power Engineering

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says climate change is real, and the commonwealth has an obligation to address it.

But Beshear says even as the commonwealth recognizes the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions—like those from coal-fired power plants—coal can’t be taken completely off the table.

“The bottom line is, we know that we have an obligation to address greenhouse gas emissions, and our goal has been to do so in a meaningful and affordable manner. We want to make sure that we don’t carry the burden, the bulk of the burden, under federal rules.”–Gov. Steve Beshear

Beshear says more time and flexibility are needed, so technology like carbon capture and sequestration can be further developed.

Gov. Beshear spoke at the 37th annual Governor’s Conference on the Environment in Lexington.
