An $800,000 project to improve and resurface US 60 through Owingsville will begin next week in Bath County.
Work, which starts Monday, Aug. 21, includes new blacktop, roadside widening, drainage pipe replacements, new handicapped sidewalk ramps and other improvements along US 60 from North Stepstone Road (about a mile west of the schools at mile marker 5) through downtown Owingsville to the KY 111 intersection (mile marker 8).
Motorists should expect short lane closures where crews are working during the next few weeks – mainly west of the elementary school, near the KY 111 intersection and on sidewalks. Also, there will be lane closures next week at the US 60 and KY 36 intersection downtown for traffic signal detection loop replacement.
Contractors will try to avoid peak school traffic times. However, motorists should expect delays and should adjust travel times accordingly.
Milling and paving of US 60 through downtown will follow, and specific schedules will be announced.
This project is being done under an $820,900 low-bid contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
