Hogge Named OVC Men's Golfer of the Week

MSU Athletics

Junior Logan Hogge, who posted Morehead State's best men's golf score in more than six years, has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the period of Oct. 8-14. The honor is MSU's first since Sept. 28, 2011.

Hogge, a native of Salt Lick, Ky., notched his best individual finish in 25 career events on Monday and Tuesday at the WKU Kenny Perry Invitational. He tallied rounds of 66, 78 and 72 at The Club at Olde Stone en route to a 216 and second place out of 66 individuals.

"Logan is very deserving of this honor," Head Coach Matthew Martin said. "His performance at Western Kentucky was really impressive, especially with how challenging that course is. He was in the zone during the first round on Monday and finished strong on Tuesday."

Hogge's opening-round score was Morehead State's best since Sept. 29, 2008, and marked the league's second-best effort this fall. He continues to lead the 2014-15 Eagles in stroke average (71.5), individual winning percentage (.935) and top-10 performances (3).

"Logan is having an outstanding fall season and was in contention to win this last tournament until the very end," Martin said. "He brings great skills and lots of mental toughness to the course. Logan went from a career-best score to a few bad shots to another very solid round."

MSU, which carded a 293-307-299--899, placed seventh out of 12 teams at WKU's event.

Morehead State wraps up its fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will be played at The Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, Ky.

The Eagles have already posted 20 head-to-head wins this fall after registering just 24 in 11 events last school year. The team has improved its winning percentage from .185 to .400.
