Hogge Wins Second Straight OVC Weekly Award

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior Logan Hogge has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the second consecutive week. The latest period covers Oct. 15-21. The Eagles had not previously been honored since Sept. 28, 2011.

Hogge posted a career-best 202 at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate to become Morehead State's first medalist in more than eight years. The native of Salt Lick, Ky., opened with rounds of 72 and 64 on Monday at The Links at Novadell before closing out with a 66 on Tuesday.

"Logan capped off a terrific fall season with another really strong effort at Austin Peay," Head Coach Matthew Martin said. "He was in the zone, especially during the second and third rounds. Logan has worked hard to put himself in a position for success. He is his own worst critic."

The tournament victory was MSU's first since Oct. 10, 2006, when Matt Gann claimed medalist honors at the Rex Chaney Eagle Classic. Gann fired a three-round 205 in that event. Hogge's second-round mark was a career best and ranks second in the conference this year.

"Logan is putting together one of the better school years that Morehead State men's golf has seen in a long time," Martin said. "Our hope is he can carry this momentum from the fall campaign over to the spring. That's the season people tend to remember for years to come."

Hogge finishes the fall with a 70.6 stroke average, which places 38th in the nation. He also turned in a .948 individual winning percentage, with 361 victories and just 20 losses. The third-year player registered 11 rounds at even or under par and now has 19 in his collegiate career.

Morehead State wrapped up the APSU Intercollegiate 10th out of 12 teams. The Eagles managed a final-round 298 on their way to an 886. The course played at a par of 72 and yardage of 6,841.

MSU opens its spring campaign March 13-15 at the Pinehurst (N.C.) Intercollegiate. The Eagles posted 22 head-to-head wins in the fall after registering just 24 in 11 events last school year.

"We certainly made some positive strides during the fall season, but we're not completely satisfied," Martin added. "There is still work to be done. Our team was competitive in some tournaments and didn't do as well in others. We want to be in the race every time we hit the course."
