Hutchinson Appointed Interim Dean Of Students

MSU Athletics

Morehead State University's Division for Student Life has announced that Brian Hutchinson has been named interim assistant vice president/dean of students.

Hutchinson succeeds Dr. Kevin Koett, who accepted a position at Western Carolina University.

"We will miss Kevin and at the same time look forward to working with Brian in this capacity," said Madonna Weathers, vice president for student life. "Brian's experience and skills will easily transfer to his new job. He will be a tremendous help as we start the search for the new dean of students."

According to Weathers, Hutchinson will continue his duties as MSU athletics director. He became the University's ninth director of athletics on March 1, 2005, after spending five years as associate director of athletics and six months as interim director.

Hutchinson says he welcomes the opportunity to be more involved with the student body, including working with student organizations and activities, as well as, ensuring the safety and well-being of all MSU students.

"Much of my experience at MSU has been student focused and many of the athletic director's duties fall in line with these duties," said Hutchinson. "I'm blessed to have the opportunity to serve my alma mater during this important time."

A 1996 graduate of Morehead State University, Hutchinson earned a bachelor of business administration, while specializing in real estate. During his senior year, he served as the Student Government Association president and was a student representative to the MSU Board of Regents. He graduated in 2001 with a master of arts in education (sports administration), also from MSU. He has remained active in the local alumni association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

In 2013-14, Hutchinson served as the president of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association.

The Louisa native also is a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee and the has served on various other NCAA Committees, including the Division I Recruiting and Personnel Issues Cabinet. Hutchinson also served as chair of the OVC Board of Directors of Athletics.
