Jewell Named OVC Newcomer of The Week

Freshman Merideth Jewell has been named OVC Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season. The first three weeks of the season she was also named the league's top newcomer.

In two matches last week, at Eastern Kentucky and at home against Austin Peay, she led the team with 33 kills, while hitting .312, and recording 17 digs. In the win over the Governors, she had a team-high 18 kills, after recording ten in the first set, and hit .444.

She leads the team and ranks 13th in the country with 305 kills on the season, averaging 4.30 a set, while hitting .190. She also ranks second on the team with 158 digs and fourth with 32 blocks.

As a senior in high school, she helped lead Mercy Academy to a KHSAA State Championship, and the Jaguars finished at the top of PrepVolleyball.com's national rankings. She also led Mercy to a runner-up finish in 2012 and a third-place finish in 2013.

In 2014, she was named Miss Kentucky Volleyball, Kentucky's Region 6 Player of the Year, was one of 18 finalists for the MaxPreps National Player of the Year award, and was the first recruit in Ohio Valley Conference history to be invited to the Under Armour All-American Game.

She posted 1,473 kills, 915 digs, and 256 blocks in four seasons with Mercy Academy.
