Kentucky Awarded Federal Education Grant

Children's Academy

Kentucky is among six states that will share $280 million dollars in federal grant money to improve their childcare programs. The U.S. Department of Education announced the recipients on Thursday (Dec. 19). It’s the third round of competitive grant funding offered through Race to the Top’s early childhood initiative.

In its application, officials say the state will make its now voluntary childcare rating system mandatory. The Stars for Kids Now program follows national best practices to rate the quality of preschool programs.

The application also says Kentucky will link its early childhood education data systems and offer more parent workshops across the state.

Kentucky will receive $44 million dollars. The six winners were chosen from a pool of 17 candidates.
