Kentucky Center for Traditional Music Finale Concert set for Dec. 1

Morehead State University’s Kentucky Center for Traditional Musicwill present “Sounds of Our Heritage,” an evening of traditional music at the Morehead Conference Center, Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.

This event is the fall semester’s finale concert by ensemble classes offered at the Center in styles such as Bluegrass, Old Time Country, String Band, Western Swing and the traditions of Ballad and Shape Note Hymn Singing.

Some of the students who will be performing have represented MSU and mountain music and culture regionally and internationally at concerts, festivals and have been broadcast nationally on television and radio.

With a strong history of education in the field of traditional music, MSU was the first to offer a minor and now offers a four-year degree in Traditional Music approved by the National Association of Schools of Music.

The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music houses the “Traditional Music Archives” which supports the academic program and provides students and the public access to a unique catalogue of audio, video and printed traditional music materials.

The concert is free and open to the public.
