Kentucky Folk Art Center to Host 'A Day in the Country'

Morehead State University

Morehead State University’s Kentucky Folk Art Center invites you to “A Day in the Country 2016” Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Morehead Conference Center on First Street in Morehead.

The event brings more than 50 self-taught artists from more than 10 states together to display and offer their work for sale. Visitors to the show can expect to find wood carvings, stone carvings, paintings, and more.

“A Day in the Country continues to draw new artists as participants and new collectors from across the nation,” said Matt Collinsworth, KFAC Director. “We’re committed to making the show as diverse and exciting as possible.  While artists from East Kentucky are the backbone of the event, it’s interesting to include the work of people from other regions and cultural backgrounds.  It makes for a dynamic mix of talent and personalities. We all owe Minnie Adkins a debt of gratitude for starting this event.”

In addition to the folk art fair, KFAC also will open a new exhibition Friday, June 3, and the museum will auction off more than 30 works de-accessed from its collection during the event.

“A Day in the Country is always a special day,” added Collinsworth. “The art is great. The people are great. There is no other event quite like this anywhere in our broader region. If you are a collector or merely curious, this is a unique cultural opportunity.”

Kentucky Folk Art Center is a cultural, educational and economic development service of MSU. The center is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
