KRC's Bluegrass Pipeline Concerns

Kentucky Resources Council Director Tom Fitzgerald says there are legitimate environmental reasons to be concerned about the proposed construction of the Bluegrass Pipeline through northern and central Kentucky. He says, while it’s true that moving natural gas liquids through pipelines in the Commonwealth is nothing new, there have been problems…

"Those of you in the eastern part of the state will remember the Floyd County explosion that occurred in 2004, when a segment of the 4-inch natural gas liquid pipeline ruptured...causing fires, explosions, nine injuries, three hospitalizations, and the destruction of five homes. This is why we have a concern." - Tom Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald also says a Williams Company pipeline leak in Colorado earlier this year went undetected for two weeks and caused significant contamination of groundwater and soil.

Williams and Boardwalk are the firms planning to construct the Bluegrass Pipeline.
