KY Food Banks Day

Today is “Farms to Food Banks’ Day in Kentucky and supporters of the program are encouraging taxpayers to assist the effort when they file their state returns this year. State Representative Wilson Stone of Allen County says, for the first time, there’s a check-off on the Kentucky tax form that enables people to donate part or all of their refund to the program…

The “Farms to Food Banks” Program uses a trust fund through the Department of Agriculture to buy surplus produce from Kentucky farmers for the state’s food banks. According to the Kentucky Association of Food Banks, the Commonwealth’s soup kitchens, pantries and food banks provided 44-million meals to Kentucky residents last year.
