McConnell Edges Ahead In Latest Poll

The numbers are in and the latest Bluegrass Poll shows Senator Mitch McConnell has expanded his lead over challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

According to the Bluegrass Poll numbers released Thursday night, Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell is moving closer to a sixth term in office.  It puts McConnell five points in the lead with 48 percent of the vote to Alison Lundergan Grimes’ 43 percent.  Just one month ago, the Bluegrass Poll had Grimes ahead by two points and leading by four percentage points in February.  Libertarian candidate David Patterson has three percent of the vote.

The bulk of McConnell’s support comes from western and eastern Kentucky.  Grimes’ core appears to be in Jefferson County where she holds a significant lead.  Central and northern Kentucky voters are split evenly.  The poll shows the candidates with equal marks when ranked on favorability.  Both scored a 37.  Just four days before the election, 60 percent of voters polled said they know where Grimes stands on issues, 64 percent said the same of McConnell.

The Bluegrass Poll was conducted for The Lexington Herald Leader and WKYT here in Lexington, along with WHAS-TV and The Courier Journal in Louisville.
