McDermott and Schellhaas Earn OVC Volleyball 'Player of the Week' Nods

Morehead State junior middle blocker Laura McDermott has been voted Ohio Valley Conference volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while senior libero Leslie Schellhaas earned OVC Defensive Player of the Week following the Eagles' 2-0 start to league play.

Schellhaas picked up her fifth career weekly honor, including her third nod this season as Defensive Player of the Week. It marked McDermott's first career weekly accolade from the league office.

McDermott led the team in kills and blocks last week. She finished with 36 kills and hit .359 in the three matches. In the OVC opener at Belmont Friday, McDermott recorded 13 kills and hit .435 while also adding a pair of blocks. She had 12 kills and just two errors for a .345 attack percentage in a 3-0 win at Tennessee State Saturday. The Westfield Center, Ohio, native opened the week with a team-best 11 kills and a .308 hitting percentage to go along with five blocks at No. 18 Kentucky Monday.

Schellhaas recorded 57 digs on the week, averaging more than six per set. At Belmont, the Louisville, Ky., product recorded a match-high 22 digs (7.1 per set). She added 16 digs at Tennessee State in another 3-0 win. She opened the week with 19 digs at UK. Schellhaas is approaching third place in career digs at Morehead State. She has 1,878 career scoops.

Following a six-match road swing, Morehead State (11-5) returns home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET against Eastern Kentucky. The Eagles currently boast a 24-match OVC regular season winning streak.
