McQueen Leads MSU Women's Basketball to 79-65 Victory With 28 Points

MSU Athletics

Morehead State women's basketball picked up its sixth Ohio Valley Conference win of 2016-17, cruising to a 79-65 victory over Tennessee Tech on Wednesday night at Johnson Arena.

"It was a good effort," said MSU head coach Greg Todd. "We knew we had our hands full. I thought our defensive pressure was good. We played an overall solid game, and I was pleased."

The Eagles (16-5, 6-2 OVC) received an outstanding performance from redshirt-senior Brianna McQueen, who poured in a season-high 28 points on 8-for-15 (.533) shooting from the field and an 11-of-12 (.917) performance from the free throw line.

With 36 games in a Morehead State uniform under her belt, the 5-foot-3 guard joined the school's 500-point club during the first half of Wednesday's win.

"It was a good game today," McQueen said. "I couldn't do it without my teammates. We just got the job done."

McQueen, a former transfer from East Tennessee State, also added six assists and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench.

"When I get off the bench, I just do whatever I can to help my team," said McQueen. "Tonight, I guess, was just a good night."

The Eagles dominated down low, outscoring Tennessee Tech 42-26 in the paint. Morehead State forced 24 turnovers from TTU, while surrendering 13. MSU never trailed in the ballgame.

Senior Shay Steele contributed 17 points, five rebounds, four blocks, and a season-best four steals. Eriel McKee polished off the Eagles' double-digit scoring with 10 points, six assists, five boards, and two steals, while Darianne Seward tallied nine points, seven dimes, and a season-high five steals.

Morehead State will hit the road for its next contest, taking on Jacksonville State (9-11, 2-6 OVC) next Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on the OVC Digital Network.
