Men's Basketball Signs De'Von Cooper of Waggener High School

Morehead State Athletics

De'Von Cooper, a 6-foot-4 guard from Waggener High School in Louisville, Ky., has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Morehead State men's basketball program.

Cooper will be a freshman during the 2017-18 school year.

"De'Von is an in-state player and he's a terrific talent," said head coach Preston Spradlin. "He's a player that we've recruited here for the past two years and that's the way we want to build this. We want to start in-state and see if we can find players that fit the culture that we are building. We want to make Morehead State a viable brand in the state that resonates with talented players and De'Von is certainly a player that can help us break down that barrier. We are excited to add a very talented player to our roster that hopefully can come in and contribute right away."

Cooper averaged 17.2 points and 4.0 rebounds a game as a sophomore at Waggener during the 2014-15 season before transferring to Henderson (Nevada) Findlay Prep for his junior season. He averaged 7.0 points per game at Findlay Prep before transferring back to Waggener this past summer.

As a senior at Waggener, he averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over the Wildcats' final 13 games.

"He's a very versatile guard that has great size, shooting ability, the ability to put it on the floor, and he's physical," added Spradlin.

Cooper joins Cedric Wright, of Chipola Junior College (Fla.), and Londell King Jr., of Gulf Coast State College (Fla.), as the third member of Morehead State's 2017 class.

Morehead State finished 14-16 a season ago. They went 10-6 in Ohio Valley Conference play, which ranked second in the league.
