More Snow, Dangerous Cold Temperatures Expected

The National Weather Service in Jackson (KY) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire Morehead State Public Radio listening area in Kentucky through midnight tonight (Feb. 16).

Nighttime lows will be in single digits  through Tuesday. Area temperatures are expected to fall below zero by Wednesday and Thursday evening. Wind chill values will be near 20 below zero during this period. Daytime highs will be in the teens through Thursday.

Snowfall will be heavy at times, averaging 1 to 2 inches per hour through Monday evening. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 18 inches expected. Roads are snow covered and travel may become very difficult, if not impossible.

During this winter weather storm, check on your neighbors, elderly, individuals living alone and those who are sick. With the heavy snowfall and declining cold temperatures during the next few days, it's important to look out for those who may be in need of assistance.

Stay off the roads to allow work crews and emergency personnel access as needed. Do not travel unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Call 911 if you have an emergency and the appropriate help will be dispatched.
