Morehead Hosts Remote Area Medical Event

SVU

Hundreds of people were able to receive free medical care in Morehead over the weekend during a clinic operated by the national RAM organization.

RAM stands for Remote Area Medical Expedition and it’s a non-profit organization that uses volunteers to offer services without charge to persons in need all across the country.

Kentucky RAM President Cassie Mace says some patients who sought help Saturday and Sunday now have health insurance but still can’t afford to visit a doctor.

“While they had insurance, they had deductibles and co-pays they were not able to, be able to take advantage of the medical care that this insurance was to provide.” –Cassie Mace

Mace says many people came to the clinic in need of dental care, which they’ve neglected for years. She says one person had 28 teeth extracted. The clinic was held at the Johnson First Church of God.
