Morehead State students walk out in protest of gun violence

Morehead State University students walked out of class in protest of gun violence and in solidarity with the #Enough movement.

19 students and four professors walked out Wednesday to protest at MSU's free speech area.

MSU student Sarah Holland, who hosted the peaceful protest, stressed the importance of solutions over political differences. She explained that the protest was an open door for anyone to express solutions to gun violence.

"The whole point is to send a message to legislators that something needs to be done," she said. "We need them to understand that students need to be protected. The best way for that to happen is by a lot of people getting together and saying that."

The protest also featured three speakers, including student Spencer Bailey, who said he is worried about the present, but expressed optimism about future change.

"When everyone protests, it builds momentum," Bailey said. "And once we get that momentum going, there's no stopping the change we can create."

"I'm tired of people I know fearing walking down the street and going to schools," he continued. "I want everyone to be able to go through their day without worrying about dying."
