Morehead State's Darianne Seward Named OVC Newcomer of the Week

MSU Athletics

After making her career debut just last Tuesday at North Florida, Morehead State women's basketball guard Darianne Seward has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

"Darianne makes us a better team," said Eagles head coach Greg Todd. "She also makes us deeper."

Seward recorded 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals in last week's 84-65 win at North Florida. Last Saturday at Kennesaw State, Seward followed her season debut with 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists as a starter in a 71-50 rout of the Owls.

Seward - a 5-foot-4 redshirt-sophomore from Columbus, Ohio - is the first Morehead State player named Newcomer of the Week this season. Freshman guard Breuna Jackson was named OVC Freshman of the Week on Nov. 15.

Senior Aaliyah Wells was named this week's Madness OVC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Dec. 19. The 5-foot-8 guard recorded a career-high 25 points on 5-for-9 (.556) three-point shooting in last Tuesday's win over the Ospreys, then followed with a 15-point performance on 3-of-6 (.500) shooting from downtown in last Saturday's victory at Kennesaw State.

Wells is the third Morehead State player named Madness OVC Player of the Week this season, after Shay Steele (Nov. 14) and Eriel McKee (Nov. 21) were honored in consecutive weeks last month.
