MSU Celebrates ‘Rites of Passage’ Ceremony

Morehead State University’s Office of Student Activities, Inclusion and Leadership Development sponsored its 32nd Semi-Annual Rites of Passage recognition ceremony Friday, May 13, in Button Auditorium.

The purpose of the ceremony is to recognize and celebrate the scholastic achievement of minority and international students. Each student received a certificate and a special Kente stole.

Student performers under the direction of Jorian Johnson and Haley Clay provided musical selections. The keynote speaker for the spring celebration was Taunya Y. Jones.

Spring graduates who participated in the ceremony were:

Davis, Lexington; Natasha Diehl, Rockford, Illinois; Timothy Raynard Dysart II, Columbus; Anthony Elechi, New York, New York;  Kady Fall, Cincinnati; JaiNai Fields, Bidwell, Ohio; Lyonell Emanuel Gaines Jr., Louisville; Shakira Kisa Hightower, Lexington; Shian Shontal Lee Jordan, Louisville; KyVonne Lackey, Lexington; Eric Pugh, Columbus; LaShayna Nicole Sawyers, Louisville; and Peggy Sowah, Accra, Ghana.

Paul Hitchcock earned his Masters in Communications from Morehead State University and Bachelors in Radio-TV/Psychology from Georgetown College. A veteran broadcaster for more than 40 years and an avid fan of blues, jazz and American roots music. Hitchcock has been with WMKY since 1986 and was named General Manager in 2003. He currently hosts "Muddy Bottom Blues" (Fri., 8pm-9pm), "Nothin' But The Blues" (Sat., 8pm-12am), "Sunday Night Jazz Showcase" and "Live From The Jazz Lounge" (Sun., 8pm-9pm) and "The Golden Age of Radio" (Sun., 2pm-3pm). He also serves as producer for "A Time For Tales" and "The Reader's Notebook."
