MSU Athletics

Junior Vanessa Bognot fired a 73 in the final round of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational on Sunday (March 16) to finish third out of 93 individuals. Morehead State posted a 314 at the Eagle Landing Golf Club to place 11th out of 16 schools.

Bognot, who managed a 72 on Friday and 74 on Saturday, closed out the 54-hole affair with a career-low 219. The third-place effort was also her best in three school years at Morehead State.

"Congrats to Vanessa on the way she played. This was a very competitive field, with 16 teams and 93 individuals, and Vanessa was a legitimate contender for medalist honors. We're excited to see how she plays this spring,” said MSU Head Coach Stephanie Barker.

MSU freshman Anna Magnusson carded a 78 in the final round, while sophomore Linnea Scholin posted an 80, junior Hannah Sublett turned in an 83 and sophomore Katie Rice recorded an 87. Senior Sofia Pettersson, playing as an individual, fired an 86.

Elon used a 299 in the final round to win the tournament with a three-day total of 892. Georgia State (896), Delaware (899), Southern Illinois (901) and Daytona State (903) rounded out the top five. The Eagles were the only Ohio Valley Conference squad in the field.

Daytona State freshman Tiffany Chan carded 71s in the final two rounds to notch a three-round 215, which was good for medalist honors. The course played at a par of 72 and yardage of 6,300.

Morehead State will remain in Florida for the three-day MSU Ocala Spring Invitational. The Eagles will host the 16-team event at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort next Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

"The MSU Ocala Invitational has become an annual event, and we're looking forward to hosting it again. We've put together a very solid field, which will be a good test for our team. Juliette Falls is a great resort, and we should have really good weather,” added Barker.
