MSU Volleyball Beats Marshall

The Morehead State volleyball team used a balanced attack and hit .252 en route to a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-20, 28-26) over Conference USA opponent Marshall on Wednesday night at Wetherby Gym.

The Eagles, who have won 16 of their last 17 home matches, improve to 2-2 overall. The Thundering Herd falls to 1-4 on the campaign. Morehead State also improves to 43-17 in the all-time series against Marshall.

Junior right-side hitter Alex Fitzmorris paced Morehead State with a match-high 10 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Hannah Sigala and sophomore outside hitter Courtney Smith chipped in with nine apiece. Senior libero Leslie Schellhaas led the Morehead State defense with 15 digs, while senior outside hitter ArynBohannon added 12. Junior setter Colbey Cameron handed out a match-best 39 assists for the Eagles.

The turning point of the night came in the second set when MSU manufactured a 21-8 run after falling behind 7-1. Smith served five straight points in a 6-0 run, while Bohannon teed it up four consecutive times in a 5-0 spurt. Marshall opened up a 23-21 advantage in the final set before Morehead State closed on an 8-3 run.

Morehead State will continue its seven-match home stand with three contests this weekend in the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational. The Eagles open with Atlantic 10 Conference foe Saint Louis on Friday (September 6) at 7 p.m.
